Job Description

Summary : A Cemetery Maintenance Groundskeeper requires the ability to maintain the overall appearance and cleanliness of our cemeteries. This role requires a reliable, hard working individual who understand the importance of detail and providing the highest level of service to our families. The Groundskeeper is responsible for the care, maintenance, and repairs of the property as well as the safety and security of the employees and visitors of the location.

  Key Responsibilities :

• Maintain lawn, cut grass, and trim around trees, walkways, and markers
• Clear debris and maintain driveways and walkways for safe conditions
• Assist in the loading and unloading of supplies, equipment, and/or merchandise
• Maintain, service, clean, and properly store equipment
• May be asked to perform some functions related to funeral services
• Operating machinery appropriately in a safe manner
• Installing or assisting in installing cemetery vaults.
• Installing headstones or memorials as needed.
• Handling the day-to-day general maintenance duties.
• Handling snow removal (when applicable).
• May require additional duties as needed

  Required Skills/Abilities:

• Must be able to work as a team member
• Ability to operate hand-held tools and equipment, including but not limited to shovels, picks, rakes, sledge hammers, lawn mowers, weed trimmers and leaf blowers
• Ability to accurately use measuring devices
• Ability to communicate effectively with fellow associates, contractor personnel and client families
• Operating machinery and equipment safely and effectively.
• Must possess a valid state drivers license.
• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred
• Ability to lift heavy objects repeatedly throughout the workday.
• Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. on a regular basis.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain and snow.

Education Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift heavy objects repeatedly throughout the workday.
• Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. on a regular basis.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain and snow.

Washington Park Cemetery Association  is an Indiana not-for-profit organization with seven cemeteries located in the Greater Indianapolis Area. We are dedicated to providing the burial and celebratory needs of the Greater Indianapolis area.

Each of our cemeteries offers a variety of ground burial options, community and personal mausoleum selections, plus a broad range of cremation memorialization options – each located in beautiful, natural surroundings. Many of our locations have a Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center on their grounds for added convenience and cost savings.
