What You Will Do
As an Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Intern at Johnson Controls, you will support the creation and maintenance of a safe, compliant, and proactive work environment across project sites. You will gain hands-on exposure to EHS programs while partnering with employees, visitors, and subcontractors to reinforce safety best practices.
Key responsibilities include:
Conducting safety inductions for new employees, visitors, and subcontractors
Compiling, maintaining, and updating safety files and EHS systems on a weekly basis
Assisting with risk identification activities and safety training sessions
Performing site inspections, safety audits, and supporting incident investigations
Promoting a strong safety culture and actively supporting Johnson Controls’ Zero Harm philosophy
How You Will Do It
You will be successful in this role by combining foundational EHS knowledge with strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
You will:
Apply your understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act) to support regulatory compliance
Use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to manage safety documentation, reports, and training materials
Deliver clear and engaging internal safety training and coaching to employees and subcontractors
Collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, recognizing that learning and improvement come through experience
Manage your time effectively across audits (20%), training (20%), and administrative/documentation tasks (60%)
What We Look For
Required Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a 2‑ or 4‑year undergraduate program related to Environment, Health & Safety or a closely related field
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proactive mindset with an interest in workplace safety and compliance
Ability to work effectively with employees, clients, and subcontractors
Preferred Qualifications
Coursework or exposure related to occupational health and safety regulations
Experience using Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Demonstrated interest in continuous learning and safety awareness initiatives

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $19.00 – $22.00/hour
