Location: Houston, TX ( Local Houston candidates only )

Industry: Healthcare / Revenue Cycle Management

Pay: $23–$25 per hour

Job Type: Contract

About Our Client:

Addison Group is partnering with a healthcare organization seeking an experienced Medical AR Specialist to support high-level denial resolution and payer collections. This role is ideal for someone who has strong appeals experience, is comfortable working complex claims, and enjoys problem-solving within a fast-paced revenue cycle environment.

 

Job Description:

The AR Specialist will manage escalated accounts receivable cases, focusing on high-dollar claims, denial resolution, and appeal creation. This role requires strong payer communication skills, analytical thinking, and the ability to investigate claim issues thoroughly to drive payment resolution.

 

After a short onsite training period, this role will transition to a flexible hybrid work arrangement.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage escalated accounts receivable cases and resolve complex claims.
  • Follow up directly with insurance payers to address denials, rejections, and underpayments .
  • Draft and submit custom appeal letters to support claim reconsideration.
  • Investigate high-dollar claims, typically $10,000 or more , to identify root causes and payment solutions.
  • Analyze EOBs and remittance advice to determine appropriate next steps for claim resolution.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to correct billing issues and resubmit claims when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all payer communication and account activity.
  • Identify trends or systemic issues impacting reimbursement and escalate when appropriate.

 

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of medical collections experience required , specifically handling denials and appeals.
  • Strong experience communicating directly with payers regarding claim escalations.
  • Experience working high-dollar claims ($10K+) required.
  • Experience writing custom appeals (not just using templates).
  • Specialty experience such as infusion, oncology, dialysis, or biologic therapies preferred.
  • Professional billing experience preferred; facility experience considered if working directly with payers.
  • Strong EOB interpretation and claims analysis skills.
  • Highly proficient with multiple systems and payer portals.
  • Reliable, organized, and able to thrive in fast-paced or evolving environments.
  • High school diploma or GED required.

 

Additional Details:

  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm (flexibility available if needed)
  • Work Model: Hybrid (onsite training, then flexible hybrid schedule)
    • MUST be local to Houston
  • Assignment Type: Contract
  • Environment: Business office revenue cycle team
  • Start Date: ASAP
