Summary

Cutler Jewish Day School is seeking an experienced and passionate Preschool Director to lead our early childhood program. The Preschool Director is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the preschool, supporting teachers, communicating with families, ensuring compliance with state licensing requirements, and maintaining a high-quality learning environment for children and families.
This is a hands-on leadership role that requires strong organizational skills, a collaborative leadership style, and a commitment to early childhood education.

CJDS is accredited by the South Carolina Independent Schools Association (SCISA), the National Association of Education of Young Children (NAEYC), and the Program for Infant and Toddler Care (PITC), and holds an A+ rating from ABC Quality.

Duties

Program Leadership

  • Oversee the daily operation of the preschool program.
  • Ensure classrooms provide a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment.
  • Support teachers in curriculum planning and classroom management.
  • Conduct classroom observations and provide guidance and feedback to staff.

Staff Supervision

  • Recruit, hire, onboard, and supervise preschool teachers and assistants.
  • Lead staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team culture.
  • Ensure adequate classroom coverage and staffing throughout the school day.

Student Development

  • Oversee developmental screenings, assessments, and child portfolios.
  • Support teachers in using assessment data to guide instruction.
  • Ensure appropriate classroom placement and transitions for children.

Family Communication

  • Build strong relationships with families and maintain open communication.
  • Support teachers in conducting parent conferences and addressing concerns.
  • Serve as a resource for families regarding child development and program policies.

Compliance & Licensing

  • Ensure full compliance with state licensing and early childhood regulations.
  • Maintain required documentation, staff records, and regulatory reports.
  • Coordinate safety drills and ensure adherence to health and safety standards.

Operations & Administration

  • Oversee scheduling, supplies, and classroom materials.
  • Coordinate program calendars and school events.
  • Support enrollment efforts including tours and communication with prospective families.
  • Collaborate with school leadership on budgeting, purchasing, and program planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, or related field required
  • Previous experience in early childhood leadership or program administration
  • Knowledge of state childcare licensing regulations
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Passion for supporting teachers, children, and families
