General Job Description:

Job Overview  

The Production Supervisor oversees all second‑shift operations in the Enclosures Department, ensuring fabrication, welding, and assembly work is completed safely, efficiently, and to specification. This role  is responsible for leading the shift team, managing workflow, resolving production issues, and supporting continuous improvement to meet quality and production goals.  

Key Responsibilities  

Production Management  

  • Lead and coordinate daily activities for assemblers, welders, and support personnel in the Enclosures Department.  
  • Assign work based on skill level, work orders, and production priorities.  
  • Monitor progress against daily, weekly, and monthly production goals; adjust workloads to maintain throughput.  
  • Ensure proper setup, material staging, and readiness of welding and assembly workstations.  

Quality & Technical Oversight  

  • Ensure team members follow blueprints, drawings, and work instructions accurately.  
  • Verify assembly fit‑up, weld quality, and final component accuracy against specifications.  
  • Support and coach employees on weld techniques, assembly methods, blueprint interpretation, and measurement accuracy.  
  • Address defects promptly, coordinate rework, and collaborate with Quality  Control  as needed.  

Safety & Compliance  

  • Enforce all safety policies, PPE requirements, crane/rigging protocols, and OSHA standards.  
  • Promote a safety‑first culture; conduct safety checks and address unsafe behaviors and conditions immediately.  
  • Ensure compliance with respirator requirements, environmental policies, and hazard‑communication standards.  

Team Leadership & Development  

  • Train employees in welding, fit‑up, mechanical assembly, blueprint reading, and proper tool usage.  
  • Provide coaching, corrective action, attendance management, and performance evaluations.  
  • Encourage teamwork, effective communication, accountability, and continuous improvement.  

Administrative & Cross‑Functional Coordination  

  • Review work orders, confirm material availability, and communicate needs to Purchasing, Engineering, and other departments.  
  • Document production data, quality issues, safety observations, and employee performance notes.  
  • Partner with Engineering to clarify drawings, specifications, or build issues.  
  • Support shift‑to‑shift communication to ensure continuity of production.  

Schedule Requirements  

  • Provide on‑site leadership for the full Second Shift, including start‑up, oversight, and end‑of‑shift reporting.  
  • Maintain communication with first‑shift and other supervisors to ensure smooth shift handoffs.  
  • Adjust schedule as needed to support production, staffing, quality, or safety needs.  
  • Ensure adequate second‑shift coverage, including arranging coverage during absences.  
  • Work  additional hours when  required to meet production goals or address shift‑critical issues.  

 

Specific Qualifications:

Required Qualifications  

  • 5+ years of supervisory experience in a heavy manufacturing or industrial production environment (preferred).  
  • Proven leadership ability, including directing teams, managing workflow, and resolving production issues.  
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, production drawings, and technical specifications.  
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.  
  • Experience leading multi‑skill teams with diverse experience levels and technical backgrounds.  
  • Competency with production‑related software, including documentation systems, digital work instructions, or manufacturing execution tools.  
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve Quality, Safety, and Production issues using structured problem‑solving.  
  • Forklift experience is a plus.  
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
