Job Description

Location: EAC (Education and Administration Center) Recruiting Start Date: 03/13/2026 Estimated Start Date: 07/01/2026 The Director for Special Education provides dynamic leadership for Special Education in the administration of all applicable Special Education laws, policies, procedures, and practices; collaborates in the leadership and operations of the office and its related functions as assigned; supervises and provides support for administrators and Special Education staff members.   • Attains proficient or higher evaluations on established Performance Standards
  • Assists in the development of the district Special Education budget
  • Assists in the recruitment and selection of Special Education staff
  • Collaborates with principals in planning and developing Special Education staffing, services, and programming as assigned
  • Assists in monitoring, evaluating, and improving instructional practices in the District’s Special Education programs through formal and informal assessments and the thorough analysis of data
  • Assists in the recruitment and selection of special education staff including building and district assigned positions
  • Assists in developing proposals, staffing design/allocation of resources, and assisting in the development of the district budget as it pertains to special education
  • Provides leadership in the identification of research-based best practices and inclusive practices that support learners with special needs, professional learning, and ongoing program evaluation
  • Assures IEPs reflect individual programming to meet unique student needs
  • Collaborates with Special Education team members to ensure compliance with and administration of all applicable Special Education laws, policies, procedures, and practices
  • Develops proposals, monitors, and reports on funding matters regarding state and federal Special Education resources
  • Ensures accurate and timely submission of local, state, and federal reports

  • Provides problem-solving assistance in support of administrators and supervisors
  • Provides supervision and evaluation for assigned Special Education staff and programs, and other areas as assigned
  • Serves as a resource to district staff for Special Education issues

    • Knowledge of curriculum, supervision, instruction, school-based processes and operations, culture, and community along with a strong student focus on individualizing for special needs

    • Proven experience in making improvements to programs and processes
    • Proven successful supervisory experience
    • Strong knowledge of Colorado Academic Standards, methods to ensure they appear in IEPs and Inclusive Practices for students with disabilities

Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's (Baccalaureate) degree (e.g., B.A., A.B., B.S.)
    • Master's degree (e.g., M.A., M.S., M.Eng, M.Ed, M.S.W., M.B.A., M.L.S.)
    • Administrator License: Initial: Special Education Director - Colorado Department of Education
    • 3-5 Years Licensed School Site Experience
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Principal License: Initial - Colorado Department of Education
    • 3-5 Years Classroom Teaching Experience
    • 3-5 Years Administrative Experience in a School or District Level Position
    • 3-5 Years Special Education Administrator Experience
    • 3-5 Years Special Education Teaching Experience
